Artificial intelligence will help Dubai in the fight against counterfeiting

Buyers in Dubai will be protected from counterfeiting branded products using an artificial intelligence system.

Muhammad Ali Rashid Luta, Director General of Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection (CCCP) at Dubai Economy, announced that CCCP will be the first state-owned organization in the country and region to deploy state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) technology to combat counterfeit products.

For this, a device developed by the American company Entrupy will be used. The gadget is linked to a database containing thousands of images of original goods, including leather goods, watches and accessories, as well as items of clothing.

Brand owners will be able to register their trademarks in the system. After that, it becomes easier to find out whether a particular product is a fake or an original. It is enough to put the device on the goods and use the instructions in the special application.

Using the new device, inspectors will be able to quickly and accurately identify counterfeit products, eliminating the need for lengthy on-site inspections.

In 2018, Dubai authorities confiscated and destroyed fake goods worth AED 332 million ($ US 90 million).
