Expatriates on civil service in the UAE guaranteed severance pay

Expatriates working in UAE government agencies can be guaranteed to receive monetary compensation upon termination of employment.

The UAE Federal Supreme Court has confirmed that expats working for the state or government agencies are eligible for benefits at the end of their service, even if this is not explicitly specified in their employment contracts.

The work of expatriates in administrative bodies or related institutions is governed by the terms of the employment contract.

The court added that regardless of whether such a provision is provided for in the contract, the employee is entitled to compensation. This right is enshrined in article 114 of Law No. 11 of 2008 on Personnel.

This law was adopted after the decision of the Supreme Court to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the employee who requested compensation for dismissal after four years of work.
