UAE Vice President Haya Bint Hussein Elected IOC Member

For the first time, a representative of the UAE, Haya bint Hussein, was elected a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). She became the fourth Arab woman to be a member of the leadership of the Olympic movement.
The spouse of the Emirate Vice President and Prime Minister, ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Jordanian princess, sister of King Jordan Abdullah II, was elected to the IOC at a committee session held in Guatemala.
In a statement on the occasion of the election, Haya bint Hussein, the head of the international equestrian federation, said she would spare no efforts to promote the development of this type of sports activity within the framework of the Olympic movement.
Along with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco and Egypt, the UAE has become the eighth Arab country represented in the IOC.
Among the 115-member committee that recently selected Sochi as the venue for the 2014 Olympics, 15 women work, including Haya bint Hussein, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad in the 43rd generation.
