Sony Ericsson Championships tennis tournament held in Qatar

On October 25, the Museum of Islamic Art in the capital of Qatar, Doha held the opening ceremony of the Sony Ericsson Championships women's tennis tournament with a prize pool of US $ 4.5 million, which was traditionally attended by eight of the world's strongest tennis players.

The championship itself, in which the Russians Dinara Safina, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Elena Dementieva, American Serena and Venus Williams, Danish Caroline Wozniacki, Belarusian Victoria Azarenko and Elena Yankovich from Serbia, will be held from October 27 to November 1 on the court of the Khalifa International Tennis Complex.

Last year, the Sony Ericsson Championships tournament was also held in Doha and became the first tennis tournament in the history of the Middle East to be held. In 2010, the tournament will once again be held in Qatar, and then will move to the Turkish city of Istanbul, where it will be held for three years from 2011 to 2013.
